Where did the year go? My daughter is one year old! I never knew I could love someone as much as I love my little girl! Every step we took to get to this point was well worth it and I would do it again in a heartbeat!
Mia was born on Father's Day last year. It was an eventful weekend! The day before was my cousins wedding and my husband decided to get a little tipsy at the wedding with the rest of the family, needless to say I was the designated driver. We left the wedding at 2:00 am and by the time we got home it was 2:30 am and then my husband (sorry babes, have to tell everyone) threw up all over our guest washroom upstairs. Our master bath was getting renovated and I was hoping it would be ready before the baby made it's appearance since I was due in July. Anyways, back to my husband who threw up and could barely stand, I brought him to our room and put him to bed and I went back to the washroom and was on my hands and knees cleaning up the floor. Somehow he got out of bed and told be he would clean it tomorrow. So I went to bed! Fast forward to 7:30 am (pregnant women usually have issues sleeping!) and I am wide awake despite having gone to bed at 3:30 am!!!!!
I look over at my husband and I am surprise he is
alive awake! He put his hand on my belly to see if he could feel the baby. She rarely moved much, surprising since she hasn't stopped moving since she was born. Well, just as he put his hand on my belly she gave me a swift kick...downwards! POP! I felt my water broke, I shot up and tried to run to the washroom in the hallway and well I couldn't really get in there! So I started running down the stairs holding myself (you know where) and my husband chasing me! I was only 37 weeks pregnant! I wasn't ready to have the baby yet! I needed one more night of good sleep, I needed to clean the house, finish the nursery, needed a long shower...pack my bag for the hospital!!!!!!! I was not ready for this!
My husband and I threw everything and anything in a bag for us (we ended up forgetting the car seat at home!) as we rushed. The reason that we rushed was because I had something called Strep B and I had to go to the hospital as soon as my water broke to get antibiotics. Well we get there and waited a good 20-30 mins! I could have showered and packed a proper bag in that time!
I was 9 cm dilated when I got the epidural, I am thinking I could have probably done without, but they thought I was at 6 cm! They checked after the epidural! After 2 hrs and 13 mins of pushing and an a**hole of a doctor later I was a mom! Born at 9:53 pm weighting 5 pounds 14 ounces, Mia was here!
Nothing can prepare you for mommy-hood! You are thrown into an unknown world and many people only share the highlights and hide the deep dark secrets! If you ask me about mommy-hood, I will tell you how it is...hard, tuff, tiring, exhausting, and sometimes depressing. I had a very hard first three months, between having a hard time breast feeding, the baby losing too much weight, her being colicky, myself being in pain from giving birth, and having PPD, it was a whirlwind!
Even though it was hardest time, it was also the best time of my life, my daughter brings me so much joy and love. It was love at first sight! I wouldn't change one single thing and wouldn't trade it for anything! I have survived one whole year of parenthood, yay me! But most importantly, my beautiful baby is ONE!
Happy 1st Birthday Mia! I cannot wait to spend many many more with my little girl! I Love you!
