This past summer I had a wedding to attend. I needed two awesome and fashionable outfits, a day outfit and a reception outfit. I am still not 100% satisfied with my post-baby body so I wanted outfits that would hide the lingering baby belly that has overstayed it’s welcome!
The first dress was a BCBG dress that I previously bought
for my daughter’s baptism. This is
the type of dress you can really wear through multiple seasons and to multiple
functions. I love this cobalt blue
colour, and really, is there anyone that doesn’t look good in cobalt blue?! The dress has a round neck and is
sleeveless. The ruffled diagonal
fabric cuts across the skirt creating a wrap peplum with an A-line skirt and the
back has an exposed center back zipper.
The front detail of the fabric over the chest area creates a slimmer
silhouette. It is comfortable and
fitted without showing that post-baby belly!
I paired the dress with a navy blue vintage satin bag with a
gold chain handle and nude peep toe high heels.
Dress: BCBG
Bag: Vintage Find
Shoes: Aldo
Sunglasses: Saks Fifth Ave.
My evening dress was one I bought in New York while on my
shopping trip with my mom and sister!
My sister introduced me to Maje (warning: do not shop with my sister
unless you want to be exposed to awesome contemporary designers and as a
result, blow your shopping budget), I really didn’t hear of the Parisian
fashion brand before then. I
discovered Maje has beautifully designed clothing made with fantastic fabrics
and unique textures. There were so
many perfect garments to choose from, I really had a tough time deciding. After quite the internal debate (yes I
know it’s just a dress), I decided on the Maje (also available at select Bay
Stores in Canada) ‘Annaba’ Pleated Fit and Flare Dress.
What drew me to this dress was its structure, which is built
up with different fabrics and layers.
It allows for a playful,
modern, yet elegant look. Its
neutral colour can lend itself to many occasions, not just weddings. The golden metallic colour fabric and the
pert pleats of the skirt create the perfect amount volume around the hip area
and the best part, the skirt has pockets!
The black band of fabric creates an illusion of a smaller waist. The sleeveless cream cropped top of the
dress is layered over the black fabric, also helping with the illusion of a
smaller waist and creates a tiered look.
The back of the dress has an exposed back-zip closure.
I paired my Maje dress with my Tibi shoes and Rebecca Minkoff ‘Kerry
Pouch’ I received as a gift. Since
the dress and shoes were two statement pieces, I kept it simple with jewelry by
wearing my everyday gold chain. I
left my hair down in loose waves and went for a natural look with my
makeup.
