Today is Family Literacy Day in Canada! Being a teacher and parent, I know just how important literacy skills are! I love reading, but that wasn’t always the case! I went through a period of time where I hated to read and pretty much refused to read! What you, my lovely readers do not know is that I am dyslexic! Which may or may not have contributed to my refusal to read!
My favourite book to read to Mia is Beautiful Oops by author Barney Saltzberg. Beautiful Oops, a great book that teaches children that life is full of possibilities and that making mistakes can lead to the start of something amazing. It teaches kids to work with their mistakes and turn them into something positive. A mistake is not always a bad thing!
The book is colourful, engaging and embedded with a great message. I love that it encourages children to think creatively. The beautiful illustrations and interactive pages allow for children to physically get involved in reading the story. I highly recommend Beautiful Oops for children of all ages, and I think it might be one of my own favourite books too!
Remember to pick up a book today and get reading with your family!
More than 1.5 million Canadians have already participated in the initiative since its debut.
PS. Stay Tuned as I will be doing a review on K5 Learning!
K5 Learning has an online reading and math program for kindergarten to grade 5 students. I've been given a 6 week free trial to test and write a review of their program. If you are a blogger, you may want to check out their open invitation to write an online learning review of their program.
